12 Days of Giving: Day 9: Tierza
December 9, 2015 10:20
Tierza was raised in a small village in Michigan and uses art as a way to escape the fear and chaos around her. Battling Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Tierza says she feels compelled to put beauty where there is none in her personal life. She shares, "As a female, every piece I make has a tender place in my heart. I feel like I gave birth to something that has a life of its own."
She creates art every day on a kitchen table that she refashioned to hold her art supplies and suit her creative needs. On making art, Tierza expresses, "I love the meaning people find in the organic shapes and strokes I make. Sometimes they differ from my own, but the feelings this brings me are pure joy."
Art therapy is highly beneficial for individuals suffering from anxiety. The art has been known to help them escape from the chaos of their minds while focusing on their physical creations. Tierza's art is clearly a healthy escape for her and the peace it brings her produces beautiful pieces of art that reveal both the chaos of her inner battle and the peace she seeks simultaneously.
Taking a closer look at Tierza's work, viewers are absorbed into a personal inner space unique to the art's creator. It is an intimate viewing experience as the viewer feels true connection with Tierza and starts to understand her state of mind through the swirls and patterns of color. Many of the color palette choices are quite calming and serene while others seem to sparkle with electricity and tension. Despite, and perhaps because of the paradox of feelings and moods, Tierza's work is quite enjoyable to behold and analyze.
Please take the time to connect with some of Tierza's work and let your mind wander. Become absorbed in the color and lose yourself in the art. Connect with Tierza and her journey of healing and expression!
