Distant Lavender
"This painting began with memories of a trip to Roussillon, where ocre is mined. My godparents took me there, and described to me how children used to slide down the hills of red, orange, and yellow, staining their clothes with pigment. The hills receded and I found myself reflecting on distant hills of dried lavender, the scent of which never fails to return me to Provence."
