"My 'Yellows' series is a collection of hard edge paintings and digital works that uses varying shades of
yellow to define and separate geometry, create depth and in some cases, illusion. On those pieces where the
yellows are used in gradation, the tightness of the yellow tonal values creates the appearance of a shadow
being cast on the adjacent yellow.
Unlike 'Yellows 1' where the yellow tone were randomly distributed on the canvas, 'Yellows 2' took a more
conventional approach by using gradations, starting with the darker shades on the outer edges and working my
way to the lighter shades in the center. Additionally, I added an 'Easter Egg'. At first glance, the art
appears to be comprised of a series of graduated squares, which would be a naturally visual assumption.
However, on closer inspection, they are not rectangles, but instead, rectangular horseshoes. Those tonal
values of the yellow are so close that we assume them to be 4-sided."
