Bill Flowers (he/him/his)

Boston

“I want to share my gift with everyone.”

Bill’s life has revolved around art for as long as he can remember. He started making art “as a child to get attention.” He continues, “I was good at it and would draw other students to get friends. It was one of the only things I was good at.” Growing up with dyslexia, Bill struggled socially and academically in school but gained confidence by expressing himself artistically.

Now, Bill says he paints because “it is a gift, a talent, and I am a natural at it.” He explains, "art helps me feel nothing. I get lost when I make art. Time goes away. Everything goes away and I get in the zone. Hours go by without a care."

He is enthralled by cities and architecture. He has travelled everywhere from London to Vienna, Toronto to New York City, and cities in Mexico. He notes that each city has its own “feel, culture and vibe.” When asked what inspires him to create, he says “anything... could be bubble gum on a sidewalk... could be the cool design or shape of a building.” Stylistically, Bill loves to create textures, and feels inspired by many different artists including Jackson Pollack and Norman Rockwell.

Bill is proud to be the first in his family to graduate college. His undergraduate degree was in art education and he used this to work at after school art programs for kids. Currently, he is in graduate school working towards his next degree in architecture. Bill creates work at Common Art, a program in Boston that provides space, art materials, and support staff to homeless and low-income individuals. He hopes to continue his journey in the art world, expressing his creativity with others in whatever way he can.
