Triangle Overlap

"This hard-edge piece is included in my 'White Line' series of artworks. The white lines are inspired by the works of Frank Stella, particularly his 1980s pieces. The colors are developed on a piece-by-piece basis, from individual color palettes that are dependent on how I envision the outcome.

The painting comes from a sketch to start. I then recreate the sketch on the computer while calculating dimensions for the individual components. From there, I develop my color palette and assign the colors to the individual components. next, I layout the design on the canvas, using pencil. Masking is next followed by color mixing and finally painting. Frequently, guidelines appear in the white lines. I leave this just to soften the piece by displaying human involvement in the very hard-edge aspects.

'Triangle Overlap' came about as a result of my fascination for mailing envelope desig design.n.As a child I remember thinking that the design was ingenious. I even began creating my own envelopes based on that design."
