Tiger Tail 2

"I came across a series of extraordinary satellite photos from Google Earth, and looked at them often for inspiration. As I was thinking about what to try next with images, I had these in mind all of the time.

I wanted to create images that are similar to those large sprawling landscapes-from-space with some of the new mixed media methods I was using. Combining inks, paints, water, oils and some simple chemistry and using macro lenses to try to create something that looks like aa much larger vista.

That said, I didn't quite get that with some images. I got something else, something I think is a compelling, abstract mixed-media 'painting. That I took a photo of. It has light, motion, some action to it—it feels alive to me. Which is another goal I've had in making new work over this past year and a half. This also works for me as an abstract painting—which is a goal I've had for a lot of new work."
