Teal Gets the Square
"On the TV show,'Hollywood Squares', 'Circle gets the square' is one of two most-used lines on the show. I pilfered the phrase to name this painting, 'Teal Gets the Square'. As there is only one square in a field of rectangles, it was a perfect title. 'Teal' is a hybrid of the monochromatic+ palette in my painting '90 Degrees x 2' and the graphic design of my 'Mondrian' and is part of an experiment to create monochromatic+ paintings using bright colors to interrupt the monochrome aspects. The combination of the two pieces worked well in this piece. The idea of monochromatic paintings would later carry over to my 'Yellows' series, where there were no additional colors added."
