Sidewalk Glass

"Astoria is a city in Oregon, located on the Columbia River near the Pacific Ocean. The city is an interesting mix of Victorian architecture, maritime history and local art (among many other things) and is a favorite destination of the artist's family. The Astoria sidewalks are dappled with weathered glass tiles in a variety of hues (mainly clear and purplish), which inspired this piece. The oxidized glass in the sidewalks are actually vault lights, serving as a sort of skylight from below, a technology first used on ship decks."
