Riding the Waves

"Riding the Waves was a very long process. In the beginning of the process, the watercolor painting had a lot of blues and reds so it was easy to follow some of the shapes created. I felt at one point I needed to add more colors. Green felt logical and the lighter tan colors reminded me of the sand. I used smaller cut pieces and built the green ones into a raised round shape....for a long time that green shape did not fit. As I have mentioned in this type of process with gluing the pieces in place; once the pieces are glued, they are set. I find it hard to work in that way but I think it also helps me to really study the shapes and colors and find a way to make it work. The Rider was the last part completed. I was so happy to make that particular shape fit in the whole composition. I call it my going with the flow style."
