Quadrataflux 3
"An outgrowth from my architecture, in some of my works I use the grid as the paradigm to organize a composition. Quadratflux III is a furthering of geometric explorations of my other works Quadratafield I and Boxed In. But here, in an effort to create even more energy and kinetic motion, I’ve copied and shifted the grid to the right a quarter distance of the grid module length and layered it on top of the base grid. The base grid is 4 columns and 5 rows and creates a matrix of 20 squares. Inscribed within each square is another rotated square. The angle of rotation of the squares alternate at 30 degrees and 60 degrees. When four grid sections meet, the spaces between the rotated squares make rhombuses (diamonds). As the boxes alternate, so do the rhombuses from vertical to horizontal. A color palette fills the different geometric parts. When this base grid and geometric arrangement within is shifted down something optically amazing happens. By changing the opacity of the shifted grid 50%, the intersections of the two layers of grids form ribbon like shapes that flow across the picture plane. If you stare at the picture, faint ribbon like elements appear to flow across the picture plane and a mysterious energy emanates as if the boxes are vibrating. This is an example of how I use geometric abstraction, using color and geometry to express motion and energy. I strive to bring through works like this one, optical joy to the viewer and for me its creation is meditative and healing, allowing me to escape to a place where pain does not live."
