"An outgrowth from my architecture, in some of my works I use the grid as the paradigm to organize a composition. The grid of squares represents pixels, speaking to the digital technology that is my medium. With this grid I established 2 rules. The first rule is that each square can be divided into 3 parts with two wide bars of the same color and a thinner center bar of a different color. The second rule is square can be divided into 2 parts of different color with one part wider than the other part. I established a palette of 17 colors to use with these parameters. One by one, in each square in the grid I made a decision of which rule and what colors to apply. From this combination of colors and objects, thousands of variables are possible. This process of decision making became a meditative experience. I like to think of the process as conducting a symphony but instead of musical notes, the notes are form and color."
