"This piece considers conventional the boundaries of photography and the image. At
its core, a mirror layered with textured acrylic paint in a deep, resonant blue
serves as both reflective surface and canvas. Dynamic, fragmented brushstrokes evoke
a sense of vastness, inviting contemplation on art as a great combiner.
Encased in a wooden frame with raw, exposed patches, the piece juxtaposes polished
and unfinished elements. Photographs are attached backwards onto the frame, defying
expectations of presentation, as if the frame itself has been attached and removed
from the back of the print displaying it. The frame itself is hung from the small
protrusion that punctures the top of the image. This inversion draws attention to
the often-hidden mechanics of display.
Notably, both the paint and the plastic layer of the image are delicately cut,
allowing subtle light to filter through, adding a sense of depth and mystery. This
interplay of light, texture, and inversion encourages viewers to question what is
hidden and what is shown, inviting reflection on the unseen layers of perception."
