Lyrical Green Abstraction
"Meaning is slippery, not fixed. Painting can address these abstract, magical, non-static aspects of life. Colors and shapes can appear one way, then appear elsewhere altered, and shift our perception...then the lighting changes, the viewer's mood changes...labels need not apply. So too, there are spiritual and universal truths, which take the form of wisdom, while absolutes rarely hold up to the test of time. Abstraction will always be a rebellious form of art, because it challenges fixed notions of authority. But abstraction does not have to be aggressive, or beat you over the head with a counter-action. It can be playful and joyful too. Therein lies the opening up to new ways of being an activist, an individual, without having to become that which one despises, to be strong and passionate."
