"I created this highly textured & sculptural piece while listening to Neil Diamond’s “Love on the Rocks”. When his velvety baritone cracks and pushes into those strong, rasping punches, I feel it spark inside me like a burst of color. I pressed blue and purple paints deep into the textured surface to follow those moments—little explosions of light in the darkness.
When the cymbals crash, they send quick metallic sparks across my brain, so I scattered tiny flecks of gold pigment to echo those flashes. And when the piano thins into gentle, flowing arpeggios—rippling fast like water—I dragged my fingertips through the wet paint in thin, quick movements to trace that sensation. The strings rise behind it all—warm and aching, I shaped those swelling currents with my palms in the darker aquamarine.
Because of MS and CRPS, I paint entirely with my hands. The pain I live with every day gets absorbed by the music; it softens, dissolves, and loses its grip on me. I’m carried forward by the rhythm. When that happens, my hands dance through the paint, and I become the place where sound turns visible."
