Hidden Springs

"I painted this landscape to convey the importance of water in the desert region of the United States. Water is scarce, sacred, and the source for life to many who call this desert home. “Hidden Springs” refers to the underground aquifers that hold water here– a future resource to those who manage it. Painting about the land I live on connects me to it and inspires me to take better care of the resources around me. This painting is the sixth and last of my recent series to paint with my non-dominate right hand, a challenge meant to break out of my own creative box and explore other ways to paint. My process for painting “Hidden Springs” involved creating a soft colored landscape and adding a black-lined grid into large and smaller rectangles. I added blue water lines and rock designs, then tonally layered various shapes until each color emanated its own rhythm and movement."
