Heirloom II

"The inspiration for this painting comes from a three-layer lacquered lunch box passed down through my Japanese ancestors. Lacquerware has always fascinated me with its intricate designs created through painting, inlays, and gilding. The multi-layered black lacquer, known for its smooth, glossy finish, is reflected in this piece, capturing my deep admiration for the craftsmanship and beauty of such cherished decorative objects. In this piece, I sought to harmonize contrasting shapes and colors, weaving them together into a visually balanced and engaging composition."

- Junco Norton
