Creating artwork has always helped Bill feel a sense of belonging. Bill lives with disabilities and dyslexia. He started making art “as a child to get attention.” He continues, “I was good at it and would draw other students to get friends. It was one of the only things I was good at.”
Now, Bill says he paints because “it is a gift, a talent, and I am a natural at it.” He explains, "art helps me feel nothing. I get lost when I make art. Time goes away. Everything goes away and I get in the zone. Hours go by without a care."
Bill currently creates work at Common Art, a program in Boston that provides space, art materials, and support staff to homeless and low-income individuals. He is also pursuing a Masters in Architecture at the Boston Architectural College.
