Falling for Autumn
"In Ontario, the colours of Autumn are truly stunning. They vary from yellows, oranges, browns, reds, and every shade in between. This season is one of the most beautiful here, even though it signals the end of summer and the unavoidable arrival of winter. To begin, I applied a vivid background on my canvas using acrylic paint, layering it with various mark-making tools, stencils, and stamps. I searched for floral and leaf patterns, which I lightly outlined with a pastel stick. After taking a deep breath, I began painting the negative space with white paint. Once you make that commitment with the white paint, there's no going back. It took multiple sessions with the white paint to refine the shapes and mask the colourful background."
