Faces, no. 1

"Faces is a series I began in the fall of 2021, as a response to worsening eyesight due to optic neuritis - a common symptom of multiple sclerosis. When I experience a flare-up with optic neuritis, my vision will cross or go double; oftentimes, it feels like I'm looking through the white tissue paper. As an artist, I've gone through periods of grief about this, especially as my ink and thread works put incredible strain on my vision. The Faces series are completed with closed eyes and in a single continuous line. Portraits are dear to my heart, as they were my primary subject in oil prior to my multiple sclerosis diagnosis. Each piece feels like a trust fall, and I'm always delighted by the faces peering back at me."
