Dusk
"Soft twilight settles in as a weary soul pauses, body heavy yet spirit searching. In the quiet of dusk, they reflect on the uncertain path ahead, caught between exhaustion and hope for where life may lead. This piece originated from a sketch I created while reflecting on my emotional state. After meditating on the composition, I decided to translate it onto a larger canvas. The color palette was drawn from a study piece I had completed several months earlier. Over the course of several weeks, I allowed the painting to gradually evolve into a more complex and abstract form. The process was challenging at times I often spent hours simply observing the work before making any new additions. In the end, it became an evolutionary experience, both artistically and personally. When creating this piece, I felt inspired to personify the balance between calmness and chaos. Much of my inspiration came from Cubist and Surrealist artworks that have always intrigued me. I’ve always admired how Surrealist paintings often include an atmospheric, dreamlike landscape surrounding the central subject. That quality inspired me to use a dusk or pre-twilight color palette and foreground throughout the piece. I also wanted to create a subject that felt both figurative and geometric. As someone who struggles with distorted thoughts, I noticed that the composition began to shift the longer I looked at it almost transforming into different images. At first glance, you might see a figure, but as you continue to observe, shapes resembling a bird, a fish, or architectural forms begin to emerge. This sense of organized chaos mirrors my own experience of trying to make sense of complex thoughts and emotions."
