"I really like the palm trees and making the buildings and the expressway colorful. I tried to use my imagination in the buildings and tried to copy the expressway from a photo but use my imagination for the cars. I got ideas for the palm trees from photographs. I worked only with color pencils."

Chicago

“I feel happy when people enjoy my artwork. I want to be able to give back to my community through my art and help people get their mind off their troubles.”

Krishaun Williams is a native Chicago artist who loves to explore and learn through creating art. He enjoys the process of deepening his understanding of any subject matter while creating. Some of his favorite inspirations are fish and cityscapes.

Krishaun elaborates, “When I'm drawing fish, I’m learning more about fish, connecting with them, learning about the structure and biology as I draw. When I’m drawing cityscapes, it helps me learn about the buildings, the shapes of different buildings, as well as learn about new cities. It’s a way of traveling to places I’ve never been, to learn about the architecture through studying pictures of the city, and drawing them, every detail.”

Krishaun has been creating art since he was a child. He was accepted into a commercial arts program in high school and was awarded a full scholarship to Columbus College of Art and Design. Shortly after Krishaun began art school, he was diagnosed with a mental illness and was unable to finish the program there. He then moved back to Chicago where he was connected with Thresholds, a mental health agency in Chicago, for support in finding housing and psychiatric care. With the support of his case management team and family, Krishaun returned to school and graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design.

Krishaun has been participating in an open studio art group at Thresholds on Chicago’s south side for over 13 years, and also works daily on his art practice from home. Krishaun is very proud to have worked at the Chicago Bears stadium, as he has been a lifelong football and Bears fan.

Krishaun hopes to be able to share his art with as many people as possible through ArtLifting. He feels that each day he is alive he is able to continue growing as a person and artist. He lives by the quote, “Once you have climbed one hill, you still have many mountains to climb.”
