Dialogue of the Stars
"This non-objective and abstract painting depicts the sun, mountains, and sky with southwest designs and geometric shapes. This painting emphasizes lines, shapes, and symbols to create a sense of contrast - but unity within its chaotic assembly.
I was inspired by my local Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque, and the skyline above. I was also interested in taking something local to me and abstracting it beyond recognition. I fused southwest designs into the tapestry of a landscape, like corn, cloud and arrow designs.
I titled it "Dialogue of the Stars" because its celestial figures seemed to speak to each other.
This painting has a white background, which was very difficult for me to keep so light, because I like so much black and color. But I wanted to restrict my use of color and rely on tone, which gave it a monotone and timeless feel."
