Desert House

"One day while I was reading an article in an art magazine and came across an artist who always painted over a red background. I found this to be an interesting concept and decided to try it myself. With my love of mid century modern homes, I decided to paint one and place it in the desert with mountains behind. This would be some place such as Palm Springs. I was intrigued how effective that was and it was fun. When painting 'Desert House', I intentionally didn't try to cover up all of the red so I could see what the outcome would look like. It exceeded my expectations. However, I never painted using that method again. When the red shows through in places, it creates some unintended effects. One person told me it looked as though the hills were on fire. All-in-all, the red helped to turn a mundane painting of a house into a contemporary piece of art."
