"Inspired by Gwendolyn Brooks's poem, Second Sermon on the Warpland, this cut paper shows the hand of ancestors reaching out to the younger generation to give them their flowers. It is a design that demonstrates a connection to the past. Through their hardship, older generations of Blacks continued to prosper and succeed, and for the younger generation to learn from them."

- Janelle Washington
