"Breakthrough represents the powerful moment of stepping into new realms of creativity. The piece features a gritty, textured surface that embodies struggle and resilience. It symbolizes the act of breaking free from the weight of the past and emerging into a renewed, transformative space of possibility. The process for this piece was quite unique. I began with a raw canvas, knowing I wanted to create a highly textured and layered surface. I decided to experiment by mixing old coffee grounds and sand with gesso, which gave the piece a distinct, organic texture. Like many of my works, it went through several evolutions at one point, it was an entirely chaotic composition. Over time, I refined the forms and developed an atmosphere that felt reminiscent of both sky and water surrounding the central figure. That balance of fluidity and structure ultimately brought the piece together. When developing this piece, I was inspired to create a gritty, almost concrete-like texture. The heaviness in certain areas reflects the emotional weight I was experiencing at the time. The composition began as a geometric structure, but over months of revisiting and evolving the work, it transformed into a bird-human hybrid figure. The idea of a bird breaking free symbolized my own creative and spiritual liberation shedding past versions of myself. I also aimed to maintain a raw, expressive quality throughout, as the act of painting itself became a therapeutic process for me."
