Birth in Decay

"All things rust or decay, but I know my soul is made with limitless power. The process of creating this piece began as an outlet to release my obsessive energy into something tangible. I started by continuously layering colors of paint, allowing the surface to build naturally over time. I also experimented with modeling paste for the first time, using it to create thicker textures in certain areas. I loved how it added depth and a tactile quality to the piece. Once the central subject began to take shape, I developed a rust-like background one that almost gives the impression of decay, as if the piece itself is aging or breaking down over time. This piece was heavily inspired by the early Cubist works of Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, as well as Lee Krasner’s abstract series. Psychologically and metaphorically, I wanted to create a composition that felt bright and full of life at its center, contrasted by a rusted, oxidized border and background. This visual contrast symbolizes the tension between growth and decay the sense that while some parts of myself were fading away, others were beginning to bloom. The painting became a way to represent that duality within the human experience: the coexistence of renewal and deterioration, chaos and rebirth."
