Ben Marcato

"A rock wall, showing its corner, mixed with patterns of dark/light sand that led to the wall. Mixed with some of the brush and plants that lead to this little area. A foggy patchy sky overlaid, softening and obscuring the edge as they do when they roll in. Some thick twisty roots and branches accentuate some of the cracks in the rocks. The real fog often has a black and white, or at least desaturating effect when it comes it, and I went ahead and let it have that effect on this image. Despite that, I don't think it's dull or stark. It really puts me right on that part of the wall where you can climb up a bit to tide pools. Something different this time—I live in a nature reserve in Santa Cruz, there’s an amazing diversity of beauty, shapes, colors and natural processes here. I have and shot new images of this area and these are collages, composites of many of those images. They include sand, rocks, rune-like repeating patterns in the stone. Sunsets, ocean, pond, coastal shots, petals, leaves, trees."
