Balance

"Maintaining balance becomes a challenging task when mental health struggles are at play, as the weight of everyday demands can feel unmanageable. The delicate act of balancing friends, family, and life often slips through the cracks, leaving an overwhelming sense of instability. This piece began as a reflection on how to contain my thoughts while living with OCD. Beneath the finished surface lie several earlier paintings and layers each one representing attempts to cover up past mistakes and perceived flaws. The chaotic composition at the center emerged through fast, vivid brushstrokes and the use of a palette knife to push and blend the paint. The background serves as a counterbalance a boundary that attempts to contain the chaotic energy within the piece, much like my efforts to contain the turbulence of my own mind. Ultimately, the work finds a balance between chaos and control. This painting was created as a form of therapy during a difficult period in my mental health journey. At the time, my therapist encouraged me to translate my thoughts and emotions onto the canvas. Through that process, this piece came to life. It was heavily inspired by the Abstract Expressionism and Cubism movements and marked a turning point in my work ushering me into a more expressive and emotionally honest style."
