"For years, I have created flag paintings, treating the American flag as a personal, autobiographical object rather than static propaganda. Drawing on traditions of Johns and Rauschenberg, I use the flag to reflect my immediate experience. As we approach the 250th anniversary, these works merge nostalgia for past unity with the realities of a changed country, constructing a complex, new image. This series balances heartfelt pride with critical awareness of modern challenges."
