Key Takeaways

- Custom chain curtain installation integrates impactful artwork and offers a practical design solution that disguises a staff-only door without compromising aesthetics and accessibility.
“[The artwork] is strong, loud, and peaceful. We looked at several images from landscapes, abstract, and other ‘face’ or figurative images; but we kept coming back to this image. [...] It’s like she’s inviting you to come to her table and enjoy the space.”

Integrating Mission-Driven Art into Multifamily Design
Lugano at Cherry Creek is a luxury residential community developed by Centerspace Homes. For this project, 10k Architecture led the interior design and partnered with ArtLifting to incorporate artwork into the shared lounge. The main goal was to enhance the resident experience while supporting Centerspace Homes’ mission-driven art initiative.
10k Architecture and Centerspace Homes teams selected Jill Scott by ArtLifting artist Stacey Williams for its bold colors and powerful expression. The artwork was reproduced as a floor-to-ceiling chain curtain, creating a dramatic visual centerpiece through its shimmering metallic texture, bold scale, and commanding portrait of the iconic African-American musician Jill Scott. The installation of the chain curtains also serves a practical purpose by cleverly concealing a staff-only door without restricting movement and access. This solution highlights the potential of creative design and art integration to bring together aesthetics, impact, branding, and practicality.

1. Banner: A communal lounge featuring a floor-to-ceiling daisy chain curtain installation of Stacey Williams’ Jill Scott, spanning the full height of the wall. The curtain is composed of hundreds of hanging metallic chains that form a vivid portrait of Jill Scott in warm hues of copper, gold, and black. In front of the artwork is a long wood table with chairs, and to the right is a modern fireplace set into a dark wood feature wall with a mounted TV above.
2. A wide shot of the lounge space from a different angle, showing the curtain in the background. The room includes a central fireplace, two rust-colored couches, four armchairs, and round marble-top side tables.
3. Close-up view of the daisy chain curtain artwork. The image focuses on the lips and cheek area of the Jill Scott portrait, highlighting the intricate pattern and metallic sheen of the linked chain materials.
4. Full frontal view of the chain curtain installation. The image showcases the artwork without furniture, emphasizing the scale and visual impact of the piece.
