In the Wake

"As a high-masking person with sensory processing issues, I may look fine on the outside but feel totally overwhelmed on the inside. Every vehicle that drives by, every screech of a metal chair being dragged across the uncarpeted floor of a restaurant, too many people conversing at once, the constant buzz of a fluorescent light, an espresso machine, a random high-pitched laugh from across the room, any combination of these things can leave me feeling caught in the wake of something painful that I can't control, like a thousand speedboats racing through my brain."

- Sarah Vaughn-Rohrbough
