"Basil began as an experiment in texture, material, and spontaneity. Created while preparing for my debut art show, the piece emerged during a studio work session as I searched for ways to use leftover paint and explore new techniques.
Working with acrylic paint and layered textures, I poured and manipulated paint across the surface, allowing the materials to guide the process. What began as an abstract exercise gradually revealed the shape of a basil sprig. The heavily textured background contrasts with the organic simplicity of the plant, highlighting the unexpected beauty that can emerge through experimentation.
This piece is inspired by the creative freedom that comes from play. Rather than starting with a fixed vision, I allowed curiosity and chance to lead the way. Basil serves as a reminder that creativity often flourishes when we let go of expectations and remain open to discovery."
