Rocky Balboa

"Rocky Balboa celebrates the loyalty, love, and companionship of a dog. Created with acrylic paint and chalk pastel, this portrait balances expressive color with careful observation. I focused on the details that make Boa uniquely himself, from his large, bold black spots and tiny speckles to the white tip of his tail. Loose, energetic marks help capture his playful personality. Boa is a rescued pit bull mix who came into our lives as a puppy. His given name was Rocky, but we wanted to give him a name of our own. Inspired by the classic Rocky Balboa films, we began calling him Boa, short for Rocky Balboa. I painted Rocky Balboa during my third trimester of pregnancy, shortly before the birth of our son. As our first and only dog, Boa taught us so much about responsibility, patience, loyalty, and love. This painting captures a special season of life and serves as a tribute to a companion who helped shape our family."
