The Taking Tree
"The trees in my work reflect my own bronchial tree. For me to be alive, two different people have donated their lungs, and I have received them. A word play off the book “The Giving Tree”, this piece addresses survivors guilt. Well, it is such a heavy thing to be alive. When my donors are not, I am so grateful for them, and for their gift, and honored to receive it and breathe alongside them."
- Dylan Mortimer
