Pathways at the Portland Japanese Garden
"The Portland Japanese Garden is a must-see, especially in the fall. It is located high above downtown Portland, Oregon, and is considered the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan. This work was created with a combination of sumi ink and artist-made ink from Japanese anemone vines and tea. It features broad swaths of ink practiced to celebrate movement and ability, often challenging for the artist with muscle tightness and spasms due to multiple sclerosis. This work features heavy embroidering, encouraging a discovery of detail both near and far when viewing."
