Japanese Maple in Early Spring

"This piece was inspired by the color of a Japanese maple and how its deep burgundy holds steady through the seasons. Even though it is not native to this land, it is still highly desired and chosen for its beauty. I was drawn to the way burgundy and mauve shift together, creating something soft but striking at the same time. I approached this work loosely, allowing brushstrokes and layers of paint to build the feeling rather than focusing on exact forms. This piece is a study of color, balance, and texture found in nature, experienced in a more open and non-traditional way."
