"After going through a series of personal losses in the last two years, I found myself drawn to concepts of connection and relationship. Into Beyond shows an impressionistic forest in evening, with swallows flitting among the upper branches of the trees. I often use birds and especially swallows to symbolize the human spirit. In this painting, hand embroidery in shades of blue traces the birds' paths upwards towards the sky, and symbolizes the need to make an intentional upward trajectory in one's life."
