"For many years, I was a modern dancer. I see my paintings as an extension of my efforts as a dancer—to fill, divide, shape, and control space through rhythm, breath, and color. I think of my work as jazz in music: an exploration of both strong and muted color, and of vague and clearly defined shapes.
I begin with color and then compose, shaping the space until I arrive at something that is pleasing to me and creates a cohesive feeling throughout the whole adventure.
I am fascinated by what lines and grids do to vague, seemingly floating colors. For me, they organize and anchor the whole."
