“As someone who has had great success and great failure in life, I understand the importance of second chances and the power of someone believing in you to help lift you back up to your full potential.”
Jack Strada is an artist from Hawaii whose paintings are inspired by the pantheon of natural forces that give form to the Hawaiian Islands. Rather than following traditional techniques of landscape painting, Jack simulates the process of nature itself, which he refers to as "chaos smoothed over." Jack lives in San Francisco, where he continues to create work inspired by his birth home, but now with added inspiration from materials found in the city. He mixes up to twenty different mediums to translate the elements of lava, wind, rain, vegetation, and the ocean into usable materials.
Jack works as a dog walker and animal care specialist, helping rehome pets facing homelessness. Previously living a few miles from the volcano in “Lava Zone 1” he learned the lessons of impermanence, radical change, and painful growth. He strives to enrich each painting he creates with these fundamental principles. For him, art is essential for day-to-day happiness and remaining balanced.
“What I love about art is the possibility of making something that has never before existed.”
