“Homelessness has meant having my art and my existence fundamentally challenged. But—I do exist, and I have a lot to say.”
Since 2012, Romula has been living with homelessness, which causes profound instability and uncertainty in her life. Regardless of the challenges she faces, she continues to move forward and grow as an artist.
“Art is how I support myself and tell my story. It’s how I remember the beauty around me. I love when my art inspires an emotional reaction in someone.”
Romula is a self-taught artist who creates paintings exclusively with her fingers and hands. Her left hand serves as a palette and ruler, while her right hand is primarily used for manipulation. She molds the shapes onto canvas using her knuckles and palms.
Romula is working towards becoming an independent and thriving entrepreneur through the sale of her art. She hopes that financial stability will extend her reach as an artist.
“I am literally and perhaps poignantly, working with my bare two hands to achieve this. With those same hands, I extend my art to you here, as an invitation to walk alongside me.”
