OIL ON CANVAS
24" x 36 FRAMED"
“I’d hope that my art touches people in a way and they feel connected to my stories as their own – I suppose this is what all great art does.”
Oil painter Emily has used art at different periods in her life as an outlet when facing difficult times. She began to use art to express her feelings and energy at a young age when she was exposed to a semi-volatile environment. She says, “Stories are the most important thing we have to offer and foster connection and community.” Emily has chosen to share her story with the world through her art.
Inspired by everyday encounters, Emily creates a connection to the people she depicts with her painterly brush stroke. Throughout her day, Emily captures “scenes of people past and present that I find beautiful or tragic” with her camera phone, as a reference for her paintings. Rather than working with acrylic paint, Emily chooses oil paints for creative and personal reasons. “I enjoy working with oils because they are forgiving and have a visceral smell and feel that I find rewarding.”
Emily spends her time cultivating resiliency and creating positive change to the world around her. Whether Emily is painting, writing, practicing yoga, or working on architectural projects, she is focused on being her most authentic self. Through ArtLifting, Emily hopes to bring the happiness she has created in her life to others around her. “I hope to meet like-minded people with a similar vision,” Emily elaborates, “make more connections in the Boston area, and bring to people a bit more happiness and enjoyment than they have.”
