"I dream the wisdom/Of Natures Rhythm/Fearless leaves letting go
Yielding to Autumn wind/Earth slows to Winters darkness/Waiting patiently for the suns return
Spring awakens brilliant blossoms/From earth's slumber/Dancing into Summer's benevolent Beauty
This is the creative process/Seasons change/So do we
Problems wont last forever/An icy heart melts into love/Pain dissolves with paint
We live life/I dream the wisdom/Of Natures rhythm."
- Jo Jackson

“I love how art-making connects me to my emotions and communicates in a visual language of textures and colors. Making art helped me reconnect to lost parts of myself and begin a healing journey to regain my voice as a creative woman.”
Jo Jackson exudes a vibrancy and passion for art and the endless opportunities art-making can provide. She is a mixed media artist, utilizing many layers and colors to express themes about issues she cares about and to feel more whole. Making art gives her a sense of belonging to something larger than herself.
Jo is finally housed, after a year and a half of experiencing homelessness! She came into the situation after escaping a marriage riddled with emotional abuse. Making art keeps Jo's spirit alive and helps her heal from PTSD, an outcome of both the abuse and homelessness. For Jo, art making is Soul Making.
Jo creates art at a community arts program at San Francisco’s Hospitality House. She enthusiastically describes the art program at Hospitality House as her “sanctuary.”
“They have provided a structure for me to be brave, grow, and build creative confidence to blossom and flourish as an artist and entrepreneur. Providing the space and supplies is amazing, creating with other artists is inspiring and encouraging. Who I am today as a visual artist is a result of their tender care and generosity.”
Jo is a strong advocate for women who have experienced trauma, active blogger, mother of two, and her work in the feminist spirituality movement brought her to Central and South America to share dance, poetry, and art with women leaders and communities there.
Her aspiration is to support other women healing from abuse. She loves bringing beauty into the broken parts of the world through her mixed media art with a positive message.
