Twist and Flow

"Sometimes when I can't get my mind to slow down, I need to explore other ways to get back on track. ADHD isn't easy to live with; especially when you work from home. The thoughts keep pinging back and forth; drumming, humming, and other times flowing from one thing to another. My mind is never on the track it needs to be on. Twist And Flow was one of those rare occasions where the idea of this painting came first. I could see the colors and the motion in my mind's eye just as clearly as if it were in front of me. It's always incredible how art of this nature - rhythmic and full of motion- has the power to redirect my state of mind. I only needed to put one brushstroke in front of the other, as if it was walking across the page. An ocean of thoughts could suddenly be directed onto a more productive path. Brushstrokes like this come from years of practice trying to recreate Chinese-style ink paintings. Every stroke is carefully planned and executed with precision. This particular painting may not exactly fit the idea of a classic Chinese ink painting, but every brushstroke needed to exude the same level of confidence. Perhaps it's that mind-body connection that was necessary for my thoughts to get back on track."
