Though I Got Home How Late

"House at Night. Acrylic on canvas with Emily Dickinson poem decoupaged in braille in lower left corner. I am a strong proponent for promoting visibility of people with disabilities and accessibility in the way artwork is created and displayed. This work is part of a series exploring interaction between low vision people in visual art. The braille in the piece explores how art can be made more accessible by incorporating braille into the pieces. This allows braille readers to interact with the art and grants agency in experiencing the work. Affording an experience within the world of visual art that is often inaccessible to low vision individuals. Within the art exists a piece inaccessible to the visual world; creating a space where the visual and non-visual merge. The “hidden” words raise the question “who indeed is disabled and who is not?""
