Prickly Pear Cactus

"Prickly pear cacti fill my California front yard, forming a quiet landscape of endurance and care. Thriving in heat, drought, and harsh conditions, they have become a personal symbol of resilience. Not through force, but through steady presence and adaptation. These cacti also hold space for others. Wildlife, including bobcats, shelter among their paddles. From time to time, neighbors stop by to harvest the paddles for food, and even without a shared spoken language, a quiet sense of connection has grown through our mutual care for the plant. This painting is an abstract interpretation of the rows of prickly pear I see from my window. Layered textures and carved marks echo the sandy soil and natural structure of the cactus, softened into a calming, breathable surface. The composition holds movement and stillness at once. Prickly pear reminds me that it’s possible to keep going with tenderness intact. I hope this work offers a similar sense of quiet strength and encouragement."
