Pastoral Symphony of Color

"I'll be honest: I struggled with this painting for a very long time. It had many incarnations, and I'm still not sure what plagued me over the course of making the piece. One tendency I have is to become attached to whatever malcontent I incur making the piece to begin with, and then, as I keep looking at it, the piece seems to carry the unpleasant feelings, which isn't necessarily what it even appears to be anymore. In any case, it took on a life of its own at some point, and as I've been working on these larger pieces recently, on an easel, placed at the foot of my bed, in my tiny apartment, I found myself waking up to them every morning first thing. By the time I started this piece, I was agitated by its presence and trying to curb my obsessive-compulsive tendencies at all hours. (Needless to say, I still have some work to do in that area, though I got better at telling myself when to stop and then sometimes even did so.) All to say that I strived to tame some inner discontent in this piece and felt like I finally achieved some semblance of harmony and flow, but it took some strange turns to get there."
