"Recently I saw a leaf motif in some random location, wallpaper or wrapping paper, and it stayed with me as an element I could work with. I'd been contemplating how to take my abstract work and constrict or cover parts of it on the canvas, leaving some popping through. I was inspired to combine the leaf motif with that idea and I love the result. The tension between the chaotic "nature" of the abstract forms at the left, and the more structure leaf forms at the right, creates a cooperation between them that I think is really pleasing."
