The Keeping Berries
"In the quiet of winter, I miss the riot of colors and life that the summer garden offers, yet the Heavenly Bamboo and American Holly bushes and trees shine with their own bright delight. Their berries stand like tiny jewels against bare tree limbs and the textured brown of woodbark, punctuating the muted landscape with flashes of red and orange as Cardinals and other birds flit among the branches, their movement and color recalling the energy of warmer months. The berries keep me tethered to that joy, drawing my eye across the bark and reminding me that even in the stillness of winter, color, life, and playful activity persist in unexpected ways."
