Can Things Ever Feel This Way Again?

"I painted this piece in two halves of time—before and after a scary medical diagnosis of a loved one. I started the painting feeling the exuberance of summer and new possibilities and while finishing it felt defeated, sad, and lonely, hence the title. At this time it felt like all joy was sucked out of the world, but the painting was vibrant and fresh and full of joy, and I wasn’t sure if I could feel those good feelings again."
