Bauhaus 1
"The Bauhaus was an art school in Germany, founded by architect Walter Gropius in 1919. While labeled an art school, the Bauhaus became an incubator of sorts for artists, architects and designers and produced some of the world's most iconic creatives such as Wassily Kandinsky, Walter Gropius, Josef Albers, Marcel Breuer and Mies can Der Rohe. The school remained operational until 1933. However, its impact on art, architecture and design are still seen today. I became very steeped in the history of the Bauhaus at age 15 when I was given a book about Wassily Kandinsky. The Bauhaus movement as a whole, has had a profound influence on my artworks as well as the interior spaces in my home. 'Bauhaus 1' is an example of how the school has influenced my art. The use of angles and open spaces on the canvas, in conjunction with color choices in this piece, reveal this influence."
